By Michael Wentz

On July 14, 2022, The Farmingville Hills Chamber of Commerce proudly participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for The Arboretum, a transformative residential development project set to address the pressing need for housing in the highly sought-after Sachem school district.

The brainchild of developer Michael Kelly, The Arboretum project was conceived in 2008 following Kelly’s participation in a pivotal 3-day community workshop at the Town of Brookhaven. With a vision to revolutionize the Farmingville landscape, The Arboretum promises to be a beacon of change, offering 292 residential units tailored to meet the diverse needs of the community.

“The Arboretum represents a significant milestone for Farmingville,” remarked Michael Wentz, President of the Farmingville Hills Chamber of Commerce. “This development is the catalyst for change that our hamlet desperately needs. It not only addresses the demand for additional housing but also introduces a host of amenities that will enhance the quality of life for residents.”

Among its many features, The Arboretum boasts a state-of-the-art sewage treatment plant, a sprawling 7-acre public park replete with walking paths and lush greenery, and up to 20,000 square feet of commercial space designed to accommodate restaurants and other businesses.

“We are particularly excited about the inclusion of a 1,500 square foot building that will serve as the headquarters and community center for the Farmingville Hills Chamber of Commerce,” Wentz added. “This space will provide a hub for fostering connections within our community and supporting local businesses.”

With its focus on sustainability, accessibility, and community engagement, The Arboretum promises to set a new standard for residential development in Farmingville. The Farmingville Hills Chamber of Commerce was honored to be a part of this groundbreaking initiative and looks forward to the positive impact it will have on our vibrant community.
